Tracy Johnson won the 2008 MCA at Daniel Kany Gallery Curator's Award; Click here for information.
Tracy Johnson is one of Maine's most sophisticated jewelry artists. Her work moves away from the ephemeral and toward the seemingly classical: pieces that will never look like last year's trinketry. Johnson insists on selecting the finest gemstones, often rare and unusual. She surrounds them in high-karat gold settings. Each piece is an original - designed by the artist to
"honor the innate brilliance of the stone itself." Johnson's work eloquently fuses historical lost-wax carving methods with state-of-the-art precision in fabrication techniques. The time, work, skill and effort are apparent in each piece, but only as a triumphant, cohesive whole. According to Kany Gallery associate Jessica Ping DePaiva, "This is not just art that you can wear, but art you would want to wear every day."
