New York City glass sculptor Trinh Nguyen works with forms that appear, at first, to be modular in the tradition of Minimalism. But with a few moments of closer observation, the work's organic logic comes to the fore. Rather than announcing itself, the organic element comes quietly as a feeling. The works come alive. While Nguyen's sensibilites are powerfully subtle, he puruses both formal and process concerns. He is very much a sculptor interested in the material (glass and fabricated steel) and he views his objects from the outside in pursuing the experiential component of the viewer. Nguyen's is sophisticated and intelligently heady work but it never stops coming across as strong and beautiful.
