Doug Randall has been working with glass for four decades and currently
owns and operates his own studio, Small Planet Glass, in Portland, Oregon.
He creates his fused glass artworks by cutting and arranging colored glass
into patterns and fusing them in a kiln. After it cools, the fused glass
sheet is placed over a mold and put back in the kiln, where gravity causes
the glass to slump into the shaped mold. After it cools again, it is cut,
wheel ground, edged, beveled, sandblasted, and finally polished, all by
hand, before going back into the kiln for a final forming.
Randall has
completed many independent commissions and exhibits his work internationally
at venues such as the Creative Glass Center of America in Wheaton Village
and the Sculpture Objects and Functional Art expositions.
