"Even in my figurative and other representational work, I am primarily concerned with the qualities of the paint itself, with color, composition and texture rather than consciously imbuing the subjects with individual qualities and specufuc meanings. In that sense, my figurative paintings are more about painting than people. My most recent work pushes this idea into abstract forms. Abstract painting enhances my freedom to use color and form as a more direct medium of expression and has a strong and continuing influence on my figurative work."
