CALL FOR CRAFT ARTISTS

The Daniel Kany Gallery of Portland is calling for artists to participate in a curated exhibition of works by members of the Maine Crafts Association.

The exhibition is open to all fine craft artists who live in Maine and are members of the Maine Crafts Association. The exhibition is open to all fine craft media. (Artists do not need to be members of the MCA to apply, but they must join the MCA to be included in the exhibition.)

The deadline for entries will be March 15th.

The exhibition, titled MCA at Daniel Kany Gallery, will open on April 4 and run through May 24. The opening reception will be on Friday, April 4, from 5-8 pm.

The Maine Crafts Association joined forces with the Maine Highlands Guild on the first of the year and new Executive Director Tracy Stutzman is pleased to pesent this opportunity for showcasing high end Maine crafts: "We have a deep and rich tradition of fine crafts in Maine and we are getting more venues where the works by our members can be shown. Daniel Kany's gallery is one of new galleries in Maine which focuses on fine craft. Kany has worked with the top glass artists in the world and many of the most renowned clay artists such as Rudy Autio and Jun Kaneko. I think it will be a great chance for him to get to know the work of the MCA members and, in turn, I think having their work in a commercial exhibition in a major gallery in Portland is an excellent opportunity for them."

Kany will be accepting emailed submissions at kanygallery@gmail.com. Artists may submit up to 5 images of works available for display. All images must be jpgs no larger than 1 MB. The images may be of the same work or different pieces. As well, the submissions must include size and retail prices of the works. All nfs works must include retail value as well and indicate they are not for sale. The submissions must also include complete contact information such as phone numbers and mailing address. Artist statements and resumes are welcome, but not required. All text documents must either be Microsoft Word documents or pdfs. Submissions may also be delivered in person or sent by mail, but must include a SASE to be returned.

According to Kany, "I would like the artists to understand that while there is a call for artists, this is a curated show. So I will be assigning works for the show as we go along. This will not be a blindly juried exhibition. Submitting earlier is probably a good idea since we might simply run out of room by the end of the submission process. I would like it to be clear that I am looking for works that are for sale. This is chance for the artists to have contact with galleries who might be interested in showing their work—mine as well as others. My focus is glass, but I also show jewelry, clay, holloware and fiber already. I am very much open to works in all fine craft media."
